Squire Jacob Rombough was born in south Freddricksberg in 1794. He was
Baptised by Reverend John Langhorn(Anglican missionary) He served in the war of
1812 and fought in several battles including the battle of Sackettes Harbour.
He was granted land in 1815 as the son of a loyalist and also bought land. On
August 22 1815 he married Catherine Milligan. Reverend Robert McDowell,
Presbyterian Missionary and founder of Queen's University preformed the
ceremony. In 1816 they moved to his land in Camden Township(lot
26&27,Concession 6)and later built the house which Lewis Rombough still lives.
Over the door is a stone marked 1831, indicating the date it was built.
Jacob was commisioned an Ensign and later as a Lieutenant in the Addington
Militia by Lord Peregrine Maitland. In 1827 he was appointed Squire and
Magistrate of Camden Township. He continued in this office as Squire untill
1847 when appointed Squires were replaced by elected councils. Jacob died in
1887, Catherine predeceased him in 1863. Both are burried inthe Pioneer
Cemetery, near Centerville Ontario. Catherine and Jacob had eleven children.
