Caroline grew up in a religious and fairly close family. Although a high school graduate, she basically lived as a homemaker. Occasionally, she cleaned others' homes. She wasn't a great cook but she made what George liked. She was a lucky card player and rarely played with George because he'd get so angry but she smiled and laughed at his rantings. She was sweet to her offspring but not out-going or affectionate and increasingly quiet as she became hard of hearing and confused in old age. Still, on her deathbed, when her daughter asked, "Mama, do you want some chocolate?", she moaned and opened her mouth to take a Kiss.

Caroline and George had 6 children, of whom all lived past 70, 5 married and had children and grandchildren, and 4 served in the military.
