Born in Zeitz, Germany. He came to the states in 1912 and moved to Humboldt in 1917. He entered the service September 4, 1918 and trained at Camp Grant, serving with the 24th Company of the 161st Depot Brigade of the 86th Infantry Division, known as the Blackhawk Division. He died of Spanish flu and pneumonia at Camp Grant on October 9, 1918.
