Two people were killed Thursday during a violent single-vehicle collision in southern Cotton County, but names are being withheld pending identification by the state Medical Examiner.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported the two unidentified people as having died from massive injuries suffered during the wreck, including the driver. One of the deceased was riding in a child-restraint seat, according to the report.
A passenger, Regan Anderson, 16, of Temple, was first taken to a Lawton hospital and later flown to a hospital in Oklahoma City where she was admitted in critical condition with head, arm, leg and internal/external trunk injuries, the Highway Patrol reported.
The three were inside a four-door vehicle that was traveling southbound on the asphalt-covered Oklahoma 5 roadway shortly before 4 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway into a ditch near the southern boundary of the county, Trooper Chantz Jackson said. The vehicle continued 629 feet before striking a concrete culvert, the report states. Jackson said the driver was pinned inside for approximately 1-hour before being freed by Walters firefighters using the Jaws of Life tool.
