Katie is the daughter of Thomas & Mary Ann (née Mansfield) Gowan of Skerries, Ireland.
Katie never married and always used the McGowan form of her name. She lived on Little Strand Street, Skerries in a home named The Nest, where she was born. In her later years, she moved down to Sandymount to be cared for in the home of her cousin Elizabeth (née McGowan) Mansfield. 'Aunt Katie', as she was called, was also a cousin to Elizabeth's husband John Mansfield. She left The Nest to the Mansfields at her passing. It has survived, owned by non-family since the 1990's and has been renamed St. Maurs.
