Thomas Strutt was born about 1500, probably in Glemsford, Suffolk, England. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Strutt of Glemsford, Suffolk, England. His father was a blacksmith and left Thomas his tools in his will. Thomas mentions “shop stuff” in his will, so he was undoubtably also a blacksmith. He had land and buildings in seven parishes, so he was probably very successful. About 1522, he married a woman named Joan. Joan’s family name is not known. He mentions his wife Joan, three sons and a daughter in his will, dated June 20, 1544 at Long Medford, near Glemsford. The will was proved December 10, 1548, so he must have died just before then. He was buried, as he instructed in his will, in the Holy Sepulcher at Holy Trinity Church in Long Melford.
