Sergeant Dedon was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy near Chorwon, North Korea on April 17, 1953 and returned to duty on June 7, 1953. He participated in a heroic action near Sokkagae, North Korea and was listed as Missing in Action on July 9, 1953. He was presumed dead on July 10, 1954.
