Dolores K. Swokowski, age 76, of 1805 S. 13th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday morning, January 19, 1997, at St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc, after a courageous three year battle with heart disease.

Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 1997, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Earl Brouchoud with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

She was born April 18, 1920, in Pound, Wis., daughter of the late Lynn F. and Alma Seaton Kelsey. She attended St. Andrew’s Catholic School. She married John A. Swokowski April 19, 1941, after the couple reigned as prom king and queen for Lincoln High School class of 1938. They divorced in 1977. Dolores devoted herself to her family and a lifelong love of nursing. After serving as a nurses aide for many years at Holy Family Hospital she entered the first class for Practical Nursing at Lakeshore Technical Institute at the age of 48. She graduated with honors on March 1, 1969, obtaining state certification as a License Practical Nurse and joined the staff at Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc. She also was employed by St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jan and Annemarie Swokowski, Manitowoc, Atty. Jay and Julie Swokowski, Ramsey, Minn., Major Jeffrey Swokowski, Stevens Point; eight grandchildren, Warren Swokowski and Susan Stueck, Manitowoc, Troy Swokowski, Erlangen, Germany, Samantha Swokowski, Fond du Lac, Brent Swokowski, Germantown, Kelsey, Kyle and Kellen Swokowski, Ramsey, Minn.; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Betsy Moore, Green Bay. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill S. Collins and a sister, Josephine Pleuss.

Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. by Rev. Earl Brouchoud.

Memorials would be appreciated to American Red Cross or the American Diabetes Association.
