Aletha Downs Chappell, age 76, of Smyrna, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 5, 2013, in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Jimmy Summey officiating. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta.
Born in Bay Springs, MS, Mrs. Chappell had been a resident of Cobb County for 50 years. She was a retired insurance biller having worked for Dr. Teresa Clark's office for almost 15 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church Smyrna and enjoyed Bible study, square dancing, knitting, crocheting and reading. She also enjoyed cooking for friends and family.
Mrs. Chappell was preceded in death by her husband, Martin M. Chappell; parents; 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Chappell of Lake Mary, FL and Cynthia (Ted) Borkowski of Powder Springs, GA; brother, Jordan (Gail) Downs of Ellisville, MS; grandchildren, Britney (Kaleb) Brown of Virginia Beach, VA, Alyson Crook of Acworth, GA, Amanda Borkowski of Smyrna and Rachel Borkowski of Smyrna and granddog, Primera of Lake Mary, FL.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12pm until the service.
