Donald Eugene "Tubby" Black of Farmington passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the age of 84 years. He was born January 8, 1929, in St. Louis son of the late George Dewy and Beulah (Taylor) Black. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Barbara Ann Black, three brothers Vernon Black, Chesley Black, and Ronnie Black, and one sister Patricia Holtz.

He was an active Iron Worker for 46 years and a member of Iron Workers Local #396 in St. Louis for 67 years. He was a member and Past Master of the Elvins Ionic Lodge #154 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Grand Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill Leadbelt Chapter # 83. Gene was an avid sprint car racer and raced in the local racing circuit for 59 years under the familiar red, white and blue # 1 and was for many years the track champion at the St. Francois County Speedway.

Gene will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his beloved wife Marceline (Claywell) Black of Farmington, two daughters Susie Black of Farmington and Mary and husband John Sherrill of Doe Run, two brothers Bill Black of Desloge and Charles Black of Herculaneum, a sister Leota Black of Bismarck, two granddaughters Christa Tinsley of Bonne Terre and Olivia Kathryn Sherrill of Doe Run, two great-grandsons Cole Elliot and Tanner Nash Tinsley of Bonne Terre, a host of other relatives, a long-time and good friend Michael Short and many other good friends.
Interment will be in the Parkview Cemetery.
