Venango Daily Herald, April 23, 1915:
James Hile Russell, brother of Patrolman Newton Russell of this city, died at his home in Sunville about 9:15 o'clock last evening following a week's illness from inflammatory rheumatism and complications, aged 54 years.
Mr. Russell was born at Cobham, Warren county, February 10, 1862, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Russell of Cherrytree. He was a blacksmith by trade and first opened a shop in Cherrytree; moving from there to Wallaceville, and then gave up his trade to work for the Ohio Oil company at Woodville, O. Returning to this county he located at Sunville, where he followed his old trade for a time, then went to the Oklahoma oil fields as a pumper.
On Friday, April 9, he returned to Sunville, where he had purchased the Richey farm and which he intended to cultivate this summer. On the following Thursday he was attacked with the illness which resulted in his death.
Besides his wife and two children, LeRoy and Lewis, both at home, he is survived by three children by his first wife, who was Miss Nellie Stevenson of Cherrytree. These children are Theodore of Sperry, Okla.; Mrs. Etta Haar, Woodville, O., and Hazen Russell of Franklin. He is also survived by his parents, two brothers, Patrolman Newton Russell of this city, and Charles Russell of Franklin; and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Seeley of Bradner, O., and Mrs. Grace Kirkwood of Shamrock, Okla.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge of Pemberville, O., of the Odd Fellows lodge, Bradleytown, Pa., and the Sunville Baptist church.
