Howard M. Rezach, age 90, of 1314 S. 16th St., Manitowoc, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Dec. 13, 2006, at his home.
Howard was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Manitowoc, son of the late John and Louise Rezach. He graduated in 1935 from Lincoln High School. On June 14, 1941, he married Janet Crane in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2000. Howard worked at White House Milk, Invincible Metal Furniture and Manitowoc Ship Building. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the European Theatre and in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in 1946 as a staff sergeant. In 1946, Howard joined the Manitowoc police department and retired as a lieutenant, in 1971. He played football (semi pro) with the Galloping Gales in 1937. Howard was active in all sports at Lincoln High School. He held the shot putt record for 10 years. After retiring from the police department, he enjoyed playing golf, gardening, playing cribbage, bowling and woodworking.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Jim and Sandy Rezach, Manitowoc; one daughter: Sally Rezach, Manitowoc; six grandchildren: Rick (Karla) Rezach, Manitowoc; Lisa Rezach, Manitowoc; Scott (Judy) Rockwell, Jodi Rockwell, Tammy (Steve) Jacobs, and Amy (David) Boseck, all of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law: Tom and Jeannine Rezach, Waco, Texas; He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Howard was preceded in death by one sister: Katherine Jape.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center. Officiating at the service will be Sister Jean Herman with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. There will be no visitation prior to services.
