Harold "Ted" Theodore Gilbert, 81, a former owner of 5th Avenue Meat Market, died Dec. 8 at Humana Hospital Alaska. A private funeral will be conducted in January. Mr. Gilbert was born Jan. 12, 1908, in Cucamonga, Calif. He was a retired butcher and lived in Alaska for the past 43 years. He was a member of the Palmer Moose Lodge No. 3929, the American Legion No. 35; the Susitna Valley Elks Lodge No. 4637, the Pioneers of Alaska Igloo No. 31, in Palmer, and the Big Lake Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his cabin at Lake Tyone. He is survived by his daughter, Norma Erickson, of Wasilla; and his son, James Layman, of Arvada, Colo.; his sisters, Lucille Beekman and Betty Rude, both of Upland, Calif., and Alice Mills, of Monterey, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Service arrangements were by Witzleben Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Sixth Avenue Chapel.
