Paul Smith Carter was born 2 June 1927 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. His mother, Lucy Mack Smith, said that her mother could name him. She had wanted to name Lucy's other children and Lucy would not let her. The only condition of the name had to be the initials of P. S. since this was her last baby. She wanted his initials to be P. S. post script.
Then at the young age of 6 Lucy Mack Smith died on 24 November 1933 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States of Tuberculosis. For a time all the children were sent to different family members. It was thought that Paul may have had TB also. Eventually they all came back together to live in the Chadwick home.
Paul went into the Navy. Soon after he finished boot camp, WWII ended. Papa said it was because they knew he was out and ready!!!
Paul chose to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Soon after WWII, they were unsure how long foreign missions should last. So Papa served for three years in Japan. Elder Paul Smith Carter c/o Tokyo Foreign Missionaries. At the age of 31 he married. They celebrated 4 children born to this union.
At the age of 83 he died 18 March 2011 in Muskegon, Muskegon, Michigan, United States. He was buried 16 May 2011 in East Hesperia Cemetery, Newaygo, Michigan, United States
