Ethel arrived in N. America at Montreal in 1913 with her family on the SS Corsican. During the 1918/1919 Spanish influenza epidemic at age 16 she attended to family and neighbors; she migrated to Detroit in 1924; she landed a position as addressograph operator at the Clark St Cadillac Plant in time for the '36/'37 sit-down strike. In her retirement she was a founding member of the Citizens for Better Care in Nursing Homes, a consumer advocacy agency, in Detroit, MI. The love of her life was her husband James Harris whom she had married in 1924 and who she always fondly referred to as Jimmie.
