Robert Edward Shaffer was born on Jan. 13,1926 in New Castle IND, Henry County. The oldest of Paul and Lola's children. Robert met Dorothy Irene Davis while attending New Castle High School. He was in the Civil Air Patrol his jr year and graduated in 1944. He enlisted for duty in the Korean War and was discharged on 10/16/1953. He attended Ball State University for his teaching degree and graduated from BSU in 1958. In the school year of 1958-59, he began teaching. Robert and Dorothy married on May 29,1947. It was during these college years that we were all born and looked after by a very sweet mature babysitter. Some time during the 1950s Robert's plane went down and he was missing quite awhile and suffered amnesia. He woke up in a hospital and was discharged soon after. After we moved to Ohio, Robert got a job at Sycamore High School in the 1960s and taught Problems of Democracy. His military career that was cut short started causing him some problems in 1971 and he was forced to retire early. Robert and Dorothy moved to Texas in 1982 and just 2 weeks after we talked on the phone for his 58th birthday, he suffered a heart attack and died on Jan 21, 1984.

Shaffer and Lola Kathryn Johnson and he had one deceased sister,Gloria, one surviving sister Helen and one surviving brother Alan Michael. He joined the Civil Air Patrol just before graduating from New Castle High School in 1944. He and Dorothy Irene Davis both attended college during and after WWII. She became a nurse and he began teaching. They both graduated from Ball State University and over time, moved around alot. They had 2 children that died soon after births, and went on to having 4 more. Mary Catherine, Edward Lee, Theresa Ann and Brian David Shaffer. After settling in Loveland Ohio, he taught Problems of Democracy at Sycamore High School. He retired from teaching in 1970 and Dorothy continued working at a nearby clinic until they moved to San Antonio Texas where their oldest, Cathy, lived. Mary Catherine had 4 children...Cynthia, Catherine,Christina and Rudy Carmona III. Theresa had 6 children....2 from first marriage with Lawrence A. Winslow II (8/19/1951-7/20/2012)Jacqueline and Lawrence III. And 4 children with second marriage Daniel Bomkamp(1/31/1958-)Andrea, Carl,Michael and Kristina. Robert died 1/31/1984 while suffering from a heart attack and Dorothy died 2/1/1995 from complications due to congestive heart failure and diabetes. They leave behind 4 children and 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
