Andrew Bateman was born in Floyd, Oneida Co., N. Y., June 16, 1815, and died at his home near Sedan, DeKalb Co., Ind., Aug. 15, 1896. Aged 81 yrs., 1 mo. and 29 days.

He with his father's family of five sons and four daughters, moved to Genesseo, Livingston Co., N. Y., when he was nine years old, settling in a new country which he helped to clear off and on which he lived until 1874, when he moved to the farm where he died, as above.

He was married to Jane McIntyre, at Honey Falls, N. Y., Sept. 6, 1842, and to this union were born two sons. The older, Charles, enlisted in the late war and was killed at Cold Harbor, June 3, 1864. The younger, Wilbur, has always lived with his parents. All of his father's family except one have passed away.

The deceased was a member of the Christian church at Lakeville, N. Y., and after moving to Indiana he joined the Lutheran church at Sedan, of which he has since been a member, and from which church the burial took place, Rev. Burkett, the pastor, officiating, the interment being in Cedar Lake cemetery.

The deceased was a man respected by all who knew him.
