Son of Henry Sherman and Eunice Richmond, Thompson was born 9 June, 1836, probably in Moriah, Essex, New York.
Thompson was the 5th of their 7 children.
He grew up in Cooper, Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he met his wife, Hortense C Woodbeck. Son George was born in Allegan, Michigan, where his mother's family lived.
On the 1870 census, the family was in White Cloud, Iowa, living next door to Thompson's brother Byron and his family. Daughter Laura was born there.
The Sherman's appear to have migrated to California along with Hortense's Uncles Gurdin and DeWitt Kenyon, as Thompson is listed in 1875 in La Pantera, Santa Barbara, Calif. Gurdin owned a farm there at that time.
1880 brought the family to Seattle, King, Washington, where DeWitt and his wife Viola had also moved. Thompson is employed as a brick maker.
In 1885, they moved to Delta, New Westminister, British, Columbia. In 1894 Thompson built the family a home in Port Guichon at (4395) Savoy St on the corner with Church Street.
It remains there today and is listed on the Historical Heritage site. It is a small Victorian cottage, one and 1/2 stories with a basement.
Thompson died 9 January, 1901, age 65years, at Port Guichon.
After Thompson's death, Hortensia and the children later moved to Vancouver.
