PONTIAC - Magdaleen D. Venable, 100, Pontiac, died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday (June 17, 1993) at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac, where she had been a resident for six years.
Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Duffy Funeral Home, Pontiac, the Rev. Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Pontiac.
Visitation will be for a half-hour before the service today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Venable was born Dec. 26, 1892, in Eylar, east of Pontiac, a daughter of Jacob C. and Gyde Marie Peterson Diemer. She married John Rosser Venable on March 17, 1923. He died Oct. 6, 1948.
Survivors include 12 nieces and nephews.
Five brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Venable was a 1910 graduate of Pontiac Township High School. She received a teaching certificate in 1915 from Illinois State Normal University; a bachelor of philosophy degree in 1916 from University of Chicago; and a master of arts degree in 1918 from Columbia University, New York City.
She taught rural grade school and high school in Livingston County for many years. She also taught at Denton (Texas) State Teachers College; Central Normal College of Danville, Ind.; and Illinois State Normal University.
Mrs. Venable was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington; the Malta Shrine of Jacksonville; and Adah Robinson Chapter 276 Order of Eastern Star in Virginia, Ill.
