"A SUDDEN DEATH.
Mr. Hermann Hirsch, of Columbus Crosses Over The River.
SICK ONLY AN HOUR.
Stricken At 12 O'clock And Died at 1—Heart Failure Ascribed As The Cause.

The many friends of Mr. Hermann Hirsch will be deeply pained to learn that he expired suddenly and almost without warning at his home at 1124 Fourth avenue, at 1 o'clock this morning , after an illness of only an hour.
Mr. Hirsch ate a hearty supper last night, and was apparently in his usual good health at the hour of retiring. He was quite bright and cheerful, and neither himself nor his family had the slightest intimation or warning that the end was so near at hand. About 1 o'clock he became very ill and his family physician, Dr. Charles L. Williams, was hastily sent [for]. The doctor hurried to the bedside of the sick man, but when he arrived Mr. Hirsch was beyond human skill. Everything possible was done for him, but all to no avail. The end came in about an hour after he was first seized, death resulting from heart failure.
Mr. Hermann Hirsch was among the best known and most popular business men in this section. He is a member of the large mercantile firm of Hirsch Bros., doing an extensive business at Seale, Ala., and Woodbury, Ga. Mr. Hirsch settled at Seale when he first came to this country from Germany, then being quite a young man. He started out on a small scale at first, but the business grew rapidly and in the course of a few years the firm of Hirsch Bros. became the largest and most successful mercantile house in that section of the country. The business has constantly grown, and about ten years ago a branch of the firm was located at Woodbury. This business has also prospered and grown steadily and rapidly until it has become as large, if not larger, than the one at Seale. Mr. Hirsch also owns extensive farming interests in Russell count.
A few years ago Mr. Hirsch moved his family to Columbus, and about a year ago he completed the handsome residence on Fourth avenue, where he died last night. Mr. Hirsch was about 55 years of age, and was a valued member of the congregation of B'Nai Israel, of this city.
He was an enterprising, public spirited citizen, and held the respect and confidence of every one who knew him. His death will occasion deep and sincere sorrow wherever he was known. He was a Mason of high degree. Mr. Hirsch is survived by a heart-broken wife and four children—Mr. David Hirsch, and Misses Addie, Florence and Lottie Hirsch. He was a brother to Mr. Abe Hirsch, of Seale, and Mr. Simon Hirsch, of Woodbury, and has numerous other relatives in this city and section. –Tuesday's Columbus-Enquirer-Sun.
The Register joins the hosts of other friends of the grief-stricken ones in extending sympathy and condolence in their dark hour."

and in the same issue of the Register, page 2:

"The Register regrets very deeply to be called upon to chronicle the death of our former fellow townsman, Mr. Hermann Hirsch, of Columbus. He was well known throughout the county, and his death will be learned with much regret by many people."
