Mrs. Wencel (Mary) Cherney, 80, of Route 1, Cato, died unexpectedly Thursday evening at Two Rivers Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Saur Funeral Home Kellnersville, and10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Reifs Mills. The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mary Cherney, nee Mary Zeman, was born July 17, 1900, in the Town of Kossuth, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wencel Zeman. She was married to Wencel Cherney Sept. 28, 1920. The couple farmed in the Town of Franklin until 1954, when they moved to their present home at Taus. Mr. and Mrs. Cherney celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1980. Mrs. Cherney was a member of Christian Mothers Society of St. Augustine Church and Jubale-O’Connell VFW Auxiliary Post 6179 of Cato.
Survivors include her husband, a son and two daughters-in-law, Lester and Doris Cherney of Route 1, Whitelaw, and Esther Cherney of Manitowoc; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Trochil of Milwaukee and Mrs. Olga Trottier and Mrs. William Sleger of Manitowoc, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A son, Victor, and two brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Saur Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday until the time of service. A VFW Auxiliary memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday and a prayer service will be at 8 p.m.
