Marie A. Helgeson, age 97, a resident of Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Marie was born on April 14, 1916 in the Town of Liberty to the late Frank and Ida Gintner Tuschl. On January 30, 1937, Marie married Walter Helgeson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clarks Mills. Walter preceded her in death on November 9, 1983.
Marie held various jobs, but spent most of her working time painting along side her husband, Walter. In addition to raising a large family, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards, crocheting afghans, and spending time with her family and friends. Marie also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul for 25 years. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Survivors include six children: Joan (Tony) Fessler, Judy (Bill) Heinzen, Karen (Ken) Schuler, Allen (Arlene) Helgeson, Lori Hoff, and Vicki (Jim) Dworak, all of Manitowoc County; two daughters-in-law: Carol Helgeson and LuAnn Helgeson; 25 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brother: Jerry (Annette) Tuschl; sister: Pat (Norb) Ahl; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by two sons: Stan Helgeson and Howie Helgeson; son-in-law: Bob Hoff; four brothers: Norb, Gordy, Bob, and Bud Tuschl; three sisters: Frances Wickesburg, Dorothy Severson; and Betty Bredesen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 8100 Brunner Road, Newton. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Beaudry with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc at a later date. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be led by Sister Marlita on Friday at 7 p.m. The visitation will continue on Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
