There are affidavits signed in 1910 in her father's Civil War pension file, so it appears Verona was trying to see if she was due any money from her father's death. The documents are confusing so I can't tell if she received payment at the time her father died or if she received retroactive payment or a retroactive adjustment. She list her first name as Veronia, Verona, Saphrona and surname as Witthaus, Withaus, Withouse in various documents. There was a document that ask her to clarify her name. One record states: My christian name was Veronia Rusch. My husband name was Simon Witthaus who is now dead and my name now is Verona Witthaus. The soldie smy father, name was Jacob Rusch.
