Donald Graden Hawkins, 83, died Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Miss. Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at the funeral home with burial in Providence Lutheran Church Cemetery in Smith County. Dr. Phil Walker will officiate.

Mr. Hawkins was a native of Smith County and has been a resident of Rankin County for the past 16 years. Prior to moving to Rankin County, Mr. Hawkins had lived Canton for 25 years.

Mr. Hawkins was a graduate of Miss. Southern where he held a Masters Degree in Education. He taught school for 37 years in the Madison County School District, teaching math, science and history. Mr. Hawkins also served as basketball coach and later worked as a Supervisor of Instruction. He ended his career as Principal of Flora Elementary School. Mr. Hawkins also was a Mason and a World War II Navy Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Hawkins of Flowood; daughter, Donna Kate Parker and husband, Carl of Alabaster, Alabama; son, Lionel Kent Hawkins and wife, Rebecca Lynn of Ridgeland; sister, Julia Jenkins of Pelahatchie; and brother, Hoy Hawkins of Brandon; grandchildren, Joseph Felder Hawkins who is serving in Iraq, Emily Claire Hawkins of Savannah, Georgia, Donald Webster (Webb) Parker of Eugene, Oregon and Maggie Alice Parker of Rome, Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Ken Perkins, Travis Tadlock, J. D. Adcock, Maggie Parker, Emily Claire Hawkins, Webb Parker and Joseph Hawkins.
