Paul Edward Brown, Sr. age 91 of Millfield, a former Athens County Sheriff, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, 2010 at his home. Born Apr. 22, 1919 in Dunbar, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Edward Lee & Agnes Ann Schultz Brown. A 1938 graduate of Shade High School and a 1951 graduate of Ohio University, B.A. in Agriculture, he has been employed as a State Trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Special Investigator with the Interstate Crime Commission for Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, Sheriff of Athens County, and Chief of Police in Nelsonville. He also owned and operated Sunnyvale Nursery for 35 years and was a horticulturist with the Ohio Department of Highways. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Athens, Athens County Soil and Water Conservation District, Buckeye State Sheriffs Association, and a life member of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion. He served as a Founding Board Member of the Sunday Creek Water District, Boy Scout Leader Troop 56 Athens and as Past President of the Athens High School Band Boosters. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Paul is survived by his children- Jo Brown Parsons of the home, Paul E. (Sheila) Brown, Jr. of Cranberry Township, Pa, and Robert R. (Kathleen) Brown of Zephyrhills, Fla.; seven grandchildren- Brian (Bunny) Parsons of Avon Lake, Leeanne Egan of St. Petersburg, Fla, Thomas (Susan) Parsons of Hudson, Wisc, Edward (Cindy) Brown of Perryville, Ark, Molly (Lane) Haley of Perryton, Texas, Marie (Brian) Forst of Bellevue, Pa. and Rene' (Greg) Brothers of Carnegie, Pa.; sixteen great grandchildren- Elizabeth & Cassie Egan, Charlotte Parsons, McKinley, Samuel & Sydney Parsons, Raphael & Lilly Brothers, Casey, Liam & Finnegan Forst, Pepper & Charlize Haley, Sallie, Edison and Boa Brown; two sisters- Betty Smith of Houston, Texas and Barbara (Andy) Haladej of Columbus; and a brother, Bill (Sandra) Brown of Glendale, Ariz. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mae Humphrey Brown in 2002; two sisters- Dolly Mae & Christina M. Brown; two brothers- Arnold Ray & Charles Brown.
