Monument to Confederate Dead. In 1879, the Southern Soldiers' Memorial Association placed this obelisk to honor Confederate dead who died at or after the battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg and placed 114 headstones in 1884. The Confederate Soldiers regimental monument was erected in 1935 by the Henry Kyd Douglas Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans and the State of West Virginia. It lists the names of Jefferson County men who served in the Confederate army.
