Albert Austin Allison, aged 77, widely known resident of Carmichaels, died suddenly yesterday (Thursday)afternoon, March 23, 1944, at 2:20 o'clock, at his home on Vine Street, Carmichaels. Mr. Allison had been up street and had just returned home when he was stricken with a heart attack and lived only a few minutes. A lifelong resident of the Carmichaels community, Mr. Allison carried the mail route between Waynesburg and Carmichaels for a period of 30 years, and during that time had many famous personages as passengers on his 'hack' including the late Carrie Nation, famous temperance crusader, who rode the hack from Waynesburg to Carmichaels for a temperance lecture. When the horse and buggy era of mail carrying was supplanted by the automobile, Mr. Allison retired from that business and for a number of years had been janitor of the Central School in Carmichaels. Born November 2, 1866, in Cumberland Township, he was the son of William Hayes and Mahala Allison, and is survived by his wife, Cora I. Mundell Allison; one son, Deputy Sheriff, P.W. Allison of Carmichaels; one daughter, Ethel L. Allison at home; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ella Areford of Khedive.
