Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013, in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett. Interment will follow at Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.
A daughter of the late William M. and Forest Gray Austin, Billie was born on November 28, 1921, in Tipton, Oklahoma. She graduated from Electra High School then earned a bachelor's degree from North Texas State Teacher's College in 1941. Billie taught school for one year in Joinerville, Texas, before becoming a wife and homemaker in 1942. From 1960-1961 she taught English at the Iowa Park High School. She then went to work at the Sheppard AFB Library, where she retired as the Head Librarian in 1981. Billie lived in Burkburnett, Texas, from 1969 until 2012. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing, quilting and making soft-sculptured dolls.
Billie was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dale J. Austin and Russell D. Austin; her sisters, Lois Mae Wooten Griffin and Marie Haralson; and her beloved husband, William Dan (Runt) Owens.
She is survived by her three children, William Dan Owens, III and his wife, Elizabeth, of DeFuniak, FL, Diana May of Tuscaloosa, AL and Dr. Robert A. Owens and his wife, Sharon, of Yardley, PA; seven grandchildren, Bill Owens, Katherine Evans, David Owens, Trisha May, Christine Whitely, Vanessa Theriault and Adrienne Owens.
