Thielen, Elvira V.

Elvira V. Thielen, age 100, of 1235 South 24th. St. Manitowoc, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

She was born May 26, 1912 in the Village of Rockville, daughter of the late Fred and Dora (Pingel) Voland. She attended schools in Kiel and graduated with the class of 1929 from Kiel High School. On October 23, 1934 she married Alvin P. Thielen at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. He preceded her in death November 16, 1978.

Elvira worked part time for the City Clerks Office, Manitowoc City Hall, Manitowoc Vocational School, and Aggens Paint Store. She then worked full time at the University of Wisconsin, Manitowoc for 14 years until her retirement in 1976. She loved playing bridge and sheepshead. She was a member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church and an active member of the ladies aid, and past member of the evening circle.

She is survived by one daughter: Caryn Sitkiewitz, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Allen (Judy) Thielen, Watertown; four grandchildren: Debbie (Mark) Fuller, Manitowoc; Kim (Ed) Buck, Janesville; Lisa (Tom) Westphal, Wausau; Rebecca Thielen and special friend David Lovio, Mosinee; seven great-grandchildren: Cassandra Seidl; Jake and Bryanna Fuller; Sam and Brooke Buck; Sheridan and Landon Westphal; one great great grandson: Justin Kunstmann; one step-grandson: Troy (Jody) Pozorski; three step great-grandchildren: Vanessa, Dylan and Vincent Pozorski; one step great great-granddaughter: Alisiya; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband: Alvin; one son-in-law: Joel Sitkiewitz; one grandson: Daniel Sitkiewitz; one brother and sister-in-law: Roy (Verna) Voland; one sister and brother-in-law: Esther (Henry) Kuester; one brother-in-law and two sister-in-laws,: Ida (Joe) Goralski; May Ahrens; one step-grandson: Scott Pozorski.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Christopher Hoppe and Rev. Benjamin Schaefer will be officiating with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00.
