Denise Adams, age 43, formerly of Georgetown, S.C. died in the line of duty on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 in Arlington, Tenn. from injuries sustained in a helicopter crash.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in North Santee community of Georgetown, conducted by Rev. Alfred Darby.
Burial will follow in Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Mrs. Adams was born on April 6, 1970, a daughter of Mr. George Patrick and Ms. Geneva Collington. She was a graduate of Georgetown High School and Tide Water Community College in Virginia Beach, Va. She was employed as a Flight Respiratory Therapist with Lebonheur Children's Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Rodney Adams of Arlington; three children, Rodney Adams Jr., Cedric Adams and Miss Courtney Adams, all of Arlington, Tenn.; her mother and step father, Geneva Grant and Eugene Grant, both of Georgetown; her father, George Patrick of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 10 siblings, Rodney Grant of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tony Grant of San Diego, S.C., Darrell Grant of Orlando, Fla., Michelle Dease of Atlanta, Ga., Antwan White of Beaufort, S.C., Lynnette Hamilton of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew Patrick and Anthony Patrick, both of Brooklyn, Gerald Patrick of Bronx, N.Y. and Andrea White of New Jersey. The Hospital Wing helicopter crashed on October 22, 2013, along Jones Creek near Highway 64 in Fayette County, TN. Hospital Wing pilot Charles Smith, Pedi-Flite nurse Carrie Barlow, and Pedi-Flite respiratory therapist Denise Adams died in the crash. They were all heroes who gave their lives, just as they lived, assisting others in need. About 2000 attended memorial services at Hope Presbyterian Church to honor the crew members who were enroute to pick up an ill child. The patient for whom the chopper was sent was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

In March 2010 a Hospital Wing crash during stormy weather near Brownsville, TN, claimed the lives of helicopter pilot Doug Phillips who had retired from the Memphis Police Department, and rlight nurses Cindy Parker of Dyersburg, TN, and Misty Brogdon of Jackson, TN.
