Hardtke, Anthony J. (Andy)

Anthony J. (Andy) Hardtke, age 62 of 1125 S. 25th St, Manitowoc, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer as a result of Agent Orange. Andy was born May 12, 1950 in Manitowoc, son of the late Harold J. and Anna H. (Ray) Hardtke. He attended St. Paul's Parochial School and Lincoln High School. He served in the US Army in Korea, located in the DMZ (1970-1971) as an Artillery Surveyor and was Honorably Discharged on May 1, 1976. On May 20, 1977 Andy married Linda Brennan at Silver Lake College Chapel. Andy was employed at Dick Brothers/Metz Bakery for 36 years. He won numerous awards for Route Salesman of the Month and loved to go to work every day. Andy also worked at Kelvinator, Manitowoc Cranes, Muskegon Piston, and drove semi for Dean Brennan Transport. Andy was well known for his volunteer work at the Red Cross and his carpentry skills; he was always fixing something for someone.

Andy was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 659; in 1989 he served as Senior Vice Commander; and was elected Commander in 1990 and 1991. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 99 and a church usher for St. Mary's Parish. Andy was known as "King" of the Custerdale Ice Rink and he loved to roller-skate dance at the Manitowoc Armory. He enjoyed spending time with his family and pets; raising his children; summers at the cottage boating, swimming, and waterskiing; coaching and playing softball; being a member of leagues including: bowling, baseball, dartball, pool, and shooting trap; fixing cars; motocross; gardening; sharing his card tricks; playing cribbage, sheepshead, and poker with the guys; grilling and cooking for others; and riding his motorcycle. He always had a special place in his heart for teaching children and he loved to dance. He loved to smile and make people happy with his infectious laughter. He took his four children everywhere he went and taught them everything that he knew. Andy loved the Packers and he loved life.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years; Linda; 3 Daughters; Brooke E., Jamie A., and April V.; and 1 Son; Anthony D.H. (Big Guy) Hardtke Jr.; 3 Sisters; Carrie (Edward) Grenier of Branch; Carmen Lesperance and Annie Beeman of Manitowoc; and 1 Brother; Allan (Joanne) Hardtke of Billings, Montana; 1 sister-in-law Judy Hardtke and 1 brother-in-law Benjamin Weina of Manitowoc; Father and Mother in-law; Dean F. Brennan and Virginia H. Brennan of Manitowoc; 3 Brother-in-laws; Gary "Buck" (Jacqueline) Brennan of Manitowoc; Mark "Goob" (Kimberly) Brennan of Manitowoc; Brian (Jacqueline) Brennan of Valders; 9 Sister-in-laws; Cinderella (Wayne) Van De Hey of Cecil; Kathie (William) O'Leary of Reedsville; Rosanne (Steven) Vohwinkel of Manitowoc; Constance "Con" Sieracki of Manitowoc; Karen (Bobbi) Minor of Kewaskum; Ann (Jerrold) Bieberitz of Valders; Sandra (Jerry) Kelley of Plymouth, Minnesota; Amy (Kurt) Scharrer of Brillion; Tina (Michael) Kratz of Manitowoc; Stanley Sieracki of Newton; David Stankey of Brown Deer; Kent Beeman of Manitowoc; Godparents; John and Marie Tess; Godchildren; Kelly (Debra) Grenier of Maribel; Chris (Kelley) Hardtke of Nicolet, Minnesota; Julie (Kevin) Jeske of Manitowoc; Eric (Marlie) Vohwinkel of Arapahoe, North Carolina; Jennifer (Seth) Schneider of Collins; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Andy was proceeded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; Infant Boy and George H. Hardtke; 1 sister; Eleanor H. Weina; and 1 brother-in-law; Todd F. Brennan.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Cremation will follow the service at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Friends may also call Thursday morning at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc from 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 until 12:45 p.m. Military Rites will be accorded by the VFW and AMVETS on Friday April 5th at Evergreen Cemetery.
