MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Ida Vivian Joyce Smith, 84, of 119 Fireside Lane of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Rufus Albert "Ab" and Ida Moseley Joyce. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after many years of service and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce and Clint Harris of High Point, and Wanda Gail Smith of Mount Airy; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph Lee and Carol Smith, Roger Dale Smith, and John Henry and Kay Smith all of Mount Airy, and Jerry Wayne Smith of Fancy Gap, Va.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Bill Atkinson of High Point; a brother, Clyde Joyce of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Mary Smith of Fancy Gap, Va. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Columbus Smith; a son, Jackie Ray Smith; and two brothers, Frank Joyce and Perry Joyce. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Linda Blessing and the Rev. Kermit L. Gray, and burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
