Mattie Lee Vaughn-Fleming was born May 12, 1943 to the late Johnnie and Ella Lue Vaughn in Montgomery, Mississippi. She was one of 7 children. Mattie came to know the Lord at a very young age, and she accepted him as her Lord and personal savior, after a life changing experience through the ministry of the late Reverend A. Allen. Mattie decided to move to Harlem, NY in 1964 with her sisters, and it was with them that she began to sing in a Gospel group. She eventually moved to the Bronx, NY where she joined and became a faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church under the late Dr. Rev. Richard Watkins. Her membership was moved and continued under Rev. Watkins at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, and upon his homegoing she continued to serve the Lord with all her heart under the current pastor Dr. Johnie M. Green Jr.. Mattie served her City and community faithfuly for twenty plus years while working for the NYC Department of Human Resources where she was esteemed and loved.To the dismay of her family and friends, it would be at work where she would suddenly make her exit from this world.Her passing was as sudden as the day she was born, but her Sacrifice, Devotion, Love, and Tears will forever live on in the memories of those who truly loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory,her Beloved one and only daughter Brenda Vaughn McCray, her Beloved three sons Andrew Williams, Marion V. Fleming, and Marvernon Fleming all of the Bronx, Her Beloved four sisters: Ella Louise kilpatrick, Ethel Lee Vaughn (her twin), Elizabeth Van Walker of NY and Gladys Mae Vaughn of Tupelo. MS. Her brother Jimmy and sister in-law Cora Vaughn of Orlando Fl, , 1 Uncle Willie (Dorothy) Vaughn of Lebanon Illinois, 1 Aunt Della Lee Tompson of Kilmichael MS. 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grand child. a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mattie is preceded in death by her Husband of a 30yr relationship and 11 years marriage, Marion Fleming, and her Eldest Brother Jobey Vaughn.
