Major Lockwood W. Doty, 30 years old, a well known resident of Lockport, who served in the world war, participating in three important engagements, died this morning at 7 o'clock at his hone, No. 202 Washburn Street. Born in Geneseo on December 5, 1892. Major Doty was the son of County Judge and Mrs. Lockwood R. Doty. He received his education in Geneseo and entered Virginia Military Academy for which he graduated in 1913, immediately entering active service.

Major Doty was the first in the cavalry of the National Guard enlisting on December 1, 1913. He continued in the service until May, 1917, when he went to Officers' Reserve training camp at Hacketts Harbor, N. Y. He was commissioned as a captain and subsequently was raised to the rank of major. When the United States enter the world war Major Forty was assigned to duty at Camp Dix, N. J., where he became adjutant to Col. John Battle. In May, 1918, he went overseas with the 78th Division A.E.F. and there performed meritorious service, earning the rank of major. He took par in three of the big engagements, the St. Mihierl, Meuse, and the Argonne.

Major Doty returned to the United State in 1919 and was honorably discharged from service on June 18 of that year. Since his return he has lived in Lockport and was in the automobile business up to the time of his death. He married Flora Cady Weaver of this city on April 14, 1917. Surviving are his wife, one son, Lockwood Richard Doty of this city; also his parents, Judge and Mrs. Lockwood R Doty of Geneseo and two sisters, Mrs. Howard B. Teall of Rochester and Mrs. James W. Colt, Jr., of Geneseo. The funeral will be private on Thursday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Corsen, No 2nn High St. and burial will be with military honors in Glenwood cemetery.
