Mr. Harris was the son of Joseph Hugh Harris and Lucy Butler Harris. He attended the Wilkes County public schools and furthered his education at Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Ala. He was a veteran of World War II and was a licensed mortician in Evanston, Illinois, for more than 50 years. His wife was the late Elizabeth Parker Harris.
Survivors include daughters, Dorothy Harris of Detroit and Sandra D. (Vernard) Dicker of Clarksville, Tenn.; stepson Albert (Patricia) Brown of Atlanta; sister Eleanor H. Brown of Shaker Heights, Ohio; brother Charles N. (Ann) Harris of Atlanta; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held June 18 in Jackson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, Ga., with interment in Rest Haven West Cemetery, also in Washington. Arrangements were handled by House of Thompson Mortuary in Evanston.
