Opal was the daughter of John Ed (1901-1983) and Mattie Leah Bennett (1901-1950) Arvin.

Her siblings: Dorothy Mae Cooper (1920-1993); William Edward 'Billie' Arvin (1922-1922); Opal Arvin (1924/25-1944); Ilene Davis (1930-1989); John Lee Arvin 1933-1993); Ronald Winford Arvin (1936-1938) and Carolyn Deanna Coonrod.
