Ernest "Tub" Carpenter, 66, of Grafton, WV, formerly of Fairmont, WV, went to be with Jesus his Saviour and join loved ones in heaven, on November 7, 2013, after a brief illness.
He is the son of the late Archie T. and Marjorie May (Hamilton) Carpenter of Worthington, WV where he was born and raised.
He leaves behind his wife, of 48 years, Patricia Ann (Sanford) Carpenter and their two children, Ernie Joe Carpenter and his wife, Tracy of Guernsey, WY and Tricia May (Carpenter) Bland and her husband Gary of "Bland Hollow" Fairview, WV. his grandchildren; whom he adored, Austin Tanner, Dustin Ray, Caleb Lee, Dailin Rose and Zoe Carpenter. Maylie Kaye Ann and Ryder Linn Bland, one great granddaughter, Athena Marie Carpenter, three sisters, Nettie Markley of Fairmont, Ganal Simmons of Clarksburg and Linda Lou Newbrough and husband Lowell of Wyatt. also,one brother, Marvin Franklin Carpenter and wife Sheila of Oak Grove, KY, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ernest was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia May Carpenter, one brother, Archie M. Carpenter, one nephew, Thurmond Carpenter and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ernest worked as a coal miner and was employed at Consol # 20 at Four States until it shut down. He was a member of UMWA Local 4060. He always enjoyed working underground and has shared many stories with his family and friends about funny things that happened to him and his "buddies" he worked with. He reminisced about some of the things that happened that caused alarm and sadness as well. He had fond memories of his friends who worked the same shift as he.

His greatest joy was having his grandchildren spend the weekends and vacation time with him, the young ones in the recent past and the older ones when they were small. Then, as they grew, he took them fishing, hunting, and to auto races. He cherished Caleb`s prayers and Athena brought new life and joy to him. Family gatherings for cook outs and vegetable soup featuring his dad`s recipe were the favorite for sharing time with his sisters. He also enjoyed Yann`s hot dog socials with his brother, son, son-in-law, and nephews. He immensely enjoyed fishing with Gary, his son-in-law, and Tricia, his "baby girl". There was nothing that compared to the love he had for his parents and his children. He was also a wonderful son-in-law.
