Bachman, John B. (22 SEP 1828 - 16 OCT 1919)

Rev. John B. Bachman died at the home of Mrs. Georgiana Dixon, at Eau Claire, Wis., on Thursday, Oct. 16, 1919, aged 91 years and 24 days. The body was brought here (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) on Saturday noon and taken to the Odd Fellows Hall. Mr. Bachman was born in Pennsylvania, of Dutch-Irish parentage, on Sept. 22, 1828. Here he grew to manhood and in the early fifties wended his way westward, settling at Monroe, Wis. where he conducted a seminary or school for boys for a short time. Later he entered the Methodist Episcopal Ministry and filled several appointments, among them being Oregon, Lodi, Baraboo, Mauston, Portage, Blackearth, Tayette, Menomonie, Eau Claire, Hurley, Downing and Thorp. Also he served as Presiding Elder one term and on the General Conference and Missionary Board. For a time he also edited a Prohibition paper at Eau Claire. He has been a resident of Thorp about twenty-five years and on account of old age he resigned as pastor of the local church here about seven years ago.

He leaves to mourn one son, Dr. E. W. Bachman of Estherville, Iowa, and one daughter, Mrs. F. S. Appleman of Caravalis, Oregon, both children by his first wife. His second wife preceded him in death just twenty-four days ago. The funeral took place on Sunday last under the auspices of Thorp Lodge No. 264 F. & A. M., of which he was a charter member, Revs. George Crow and G. A. Wadding assisting in the services, interment following in the Thorp Village Cemetery, where the Masonic Burial service was delivered by Grand Master Charles Shane of Eau Claire.
