In 1825 Rev. Ezra Adams persuaded his
older brother, Rufus, to move from Westbury,
Quebec to Esquesing (Adamsville/Acton), Ont.

Rufus obtained Lot 28, Con. 3 just across
the road (now Main St., Acton) from Ezra.
Most of present day Acton is built on what
was once Rufus' land.

Rufus built his house at the end of what
today is St. Alban's Drive which was the
driveway to the house.

Maria, Rufus' wife, wanted a schoolhouse
for her children, so she built one across
the road from her driveway on the land
where Knox church now stands. The school
doubled as a Methodist chapel and the
land behind became the family cemetery.

Excerpt from Christian Guardian:
Rufus Adams, born in New England, lived in
Acton nearly 28 years, died there May 6,
1856 in 73rd year.
Survived by wife and two daughters who
live in New Brunswick. Son Lucius died a
few months before (should be years).
He was raised Presbyterian but converted
in his 28th year and joined the Wesleyan
Methodist church after that.

Burial:
See note below, based on Hamilton City
Cemetery records.
