A VERY SUDDEN DEATH.

ANDREW A. DEMAREST DIES AT HIS HOME FRIDAY MORNING.

In Apparent Good Health Thursday and Out About His Work as Usual--Funeral Services at His Home on Sunday Afternoon.

Mr. Andrew A. Demarest, who has for year been a resident of Nyack, died very suddenly at his home, 33 South Broadway, at 6 o'clock last Friday. Mr. Demarest was apparently in his usual health up to an hour or so before death came, he was out about his usual business yesterday and after retiring last night, slept well until near morning, when he arose complaining of a pain at the back of his neck. He suffered nausea, and sat at a window for fresh air. His wife attended him and sent for the family physicians, Doctors Polhemus and Kline. When they arrived Mr. Demarest was dead. He died without any apparent struggle or pain. Bright's disease, from which he suffered, and the intense heat, caused his death.

Mr. Demarest was born at Nanuet, this county, Sept. 27. 1841, making his age 54 years, 10 months and 17 days. He lived on the farm where he was born until 1866, when he came to Nyack and entered the livery stable business, which he followed up to the time of his death. He married Mrs. Jennie F. Doremus, daughter of the late David F. Ackerson, Nov. 2, 1885, who survives him, also three brothers, Abram A., Garret A. and Cornelius H., and one sister, Mrs. Isaac S. Lydecker. Mr. Demarest was an exempt member of Mazeppa Engine Co. Funeral services were held at his late home, on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.

--

The funeral services over the remains of the late Andrew A. Demarest were held at the house, Broadway corner of Remsen Street, on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, and was largely attended by relatives and friends from all parts of Rockland County. The Rev. William J. Legged, Ph.D., officiated, assisted by the Rev. J. Riley Johnson. The pall bearers were the Hon. George Dickey, W. A. Fulton, Charles Haines, Robert Gedney, David Charters, William Hutton, of Nanuet, Isaac W. Canfield and James Vanderbilt. At the conclusion of the service the remains were conveyed to Oak Hill Cemetery for interment. The members of Mazeppa Engine Co., No. 2, of which the deceased was an exempt member, turned out in a body and accompanied the remains to their last resting place.
