The ground around the Arch Street Friends Meeting House was first used for burial purposes under a patent issued by William Penn in 1701 and many victims of the yellow fever epidemic of 1793 are buried here. Though the exact number of burials is not known, the actual number is expected to be over well over 1,000. Of those, Dr. Edward Owen's is one of a handful of burials which are designated with a burial marker.
