Mr Benj I Hazard Dies After Brief Illness

Life Long Resident of Georgetown Succumbs to Serve Attack of Pneumonia

The news of the death of Mr Benj I Hazard came as a distinct shock to the numerous friends of the family when it became known yesterday morning that this gentleman had breathed his last about one o'clock Tuesday morning. For the past week it was known that Mr Hazard was confined to his home with an attack of pneumonia but it was not thought the attack would prove fatal. A change in his condition was noted Monday afternoon and from until the end came he did not rally.

Mr Hazard was a son of the late Mr B I Hazard and was about fifty six years of age at the time of his death. In 1886 Mr Hazard was married to Miss Milly Gould of New Haven Conn. Besides his wife and one one Mr. Carl Hazard of Birmingham Ala, and one daughter Miss Lucile of Hendersonville NC, Mr Hazard is survived by four brothers Messers Allen P Walter and Joni I Hazard of Georgetown and Mr. Schuyler Hazard of Albion New York and two sisters Mrs W Alden James of Fellsmere Fla and Mrs Stanyarne Wilson of Richmond Va.

Miss Lucile arrived in the city last night from Hendersonville and Mr. Carl Hazard from Birmingham is expected to reach the city this morning.

The funeral services will be held this afternoon at half after four o'clock at Prince George Winyah Church the rector Rev John S Lightbourn officiating.

Ever since his boyhood days Mr. Hazard has been actively engaged in business in Georgetown until a few years ago when he moved to Hendersonville NC on account of the health of his family. A short while ago he returned to Georgetown and resumed his residence here.

Georgetown has lost a good citizen in the death of Mr. Hazard. May he rest in peace.
