Danielsville - Mr. John Lafayette Carey, Sr., 84, of 266 Water Oak Road, Danielsville, Ga.,died Monday, March 07, 2005 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Ga.
Mr. Carey was born in Madison County, Ga., August 18, 1920, son of the late S.M. and Era Fits Carey. He was a brick mason and member of the Evangelical Methodist Church. Mr. Carey was a United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Harrison McCreary V.F. W. Post.
Survivors include his wife, Virgie G. Carey, Danielsville, Ga.; sons, Alford Carey, Danielsville, Ga. and John L. Carey, Jr., Milledgeville, Ga.; daughters and son-in-law, Helen and Jimmy Huff, Comer, Ga., Betty West, Comer, Ga., Cathy Carey, Covington, Ga.; son-in-law, Tim Christian; two brothers, Billy Carey and Ford Carey, both of Danielsville, Ga.; six sisters, Hester Sartain, Gladell Sexton, Ethel Sexton, Roberta Dove, Stuart Kirk, all of Danielsville, Ga., Annie Mae Smith, of Hull, Ga.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Carol Jones, Steven Malcolm West and Jackie Bullard; one brother, Buford Carey; two sisters, Allie Dudley and Cornelia Ginn.
Funeral services for Mr. Carey will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 09, 2005 at the Shiloh Evangelical Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Frank Carey, Rev. Glenn Guest and Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
