Civil War Union Army Officer. He was 44 years old and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when he was commissioned as a Captain, and mustered in as commander of Company A, 81st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on August 5, 1861. He served until he resigned on November 14, 1862. He then served in Company B, 52nd Pennsylvania Emergency Troops, which was raised in June 1863 to counter the Confederate Invasion of Pennsylvania.
