Joseph Clohecy Gilmore did not marry; however, a grand nephew was named after him, Joseph Clohecy Gilmore (1912-1964), the grandson of John Alexander Gilmore and son of Philip Hickey Morgan Gilmore.

Obit: JOSEPH C. GILMORE, LAWYER, DIES HERE IN HIS 81ST YEAR -- Funeral Services Will Be Held This Afternoon at Niece's Home.
--Joseph C. Gilmore, aged New Orleans lawyer and son of a distinguished member of the New Orleans bar of nearly a half-centrury ago, died in the Mercy Soniat hospital late Tuesday afternoon [October 15, 1929]. Mr. Gilmore, who was 80 years old, suffered a stroke of paralysis a week ago. Born in New Orleans, he was graduated form Mt. St. Mary's college, Emmetsburg, MD., and entered the law office of his father, Thomas Gilmore. Later with his brothers, John A. Gilmore and Samuel L. Gilmore, the firm of T. Gilmore and Sons was established. Samuel L. Gilmore was at one time city attorney of New Orleans and later a congressman from this district. With the deaths of the other members of the firm a new partnership, that of J. C. and Thomas Gilmore, a nephew, was formed. He was a member of this firm at the time of his death. Mr. Gilmore served two terms in the state Legislature in 1888 and 1892. He was a member of the Boston Club and made his home with his nephew at 3695 St. Charles avenue. He was unmarried. He is survived by several nephews and nieces, Morgan Gilmore, Mrs. John D. O'Reilly, Thomas Gilmore, Miss May Gilmore, Samuel Gilmore, Arthur Gilmore, and Mrs. Robert Robinson, all of this city. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:15 o'clock at the home of his niece, Mrs. John D. O'Reilly, 5225 Pitt street, and at the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel at 3 o'clock.
