"Death of Brinsley Barnes"
Died in Green township, May 25 1880, at the residence of his son-in-law C.C. Curnutt, Brinsley Barnes, after a painful illness of three weeks. The deceased was born in North Carolina, May 29, 1800. His parents moved to Kentucky when he was four years old, where he was raised and educated. After his education was finished he filled several important offices. He was honored and respected by all. In 1828 he moved with his parents to Missouri, and settled near DeKalb, Buchanan county. In 1846 he married Mrs. Nancy Matherly. Two children blessed this union, one of which died at the age of six years, the other, Mrs Mary L Curnutt, was spared to take care of him in his old age. In 1858, he moved with his family to Nodaway county where he has since resided. He taught school several years in Hughes township, where he also served as justice of the peace. In 1860 he professed religion and joined the M.E. church, south, in which he lived a faithful and consistent member until removed from the church militant to the church triumphant, and though he left no dying testimony, we mourn not as those without hope. He survived his companion eight years. He has one brother living in Buchanan county and two in Worth county. His remains were interred in the Cain burying ground, May 26. May the bereaved ones live so that they may make an unbroken family in heaven" - A friend.
