Rock Musician. He was the bass player for the popular 1990s rock/grunge band, 'Soul Asylum.' The group formed in 1981 as a garage band under the name of 'Loud Fast Rules,' in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band which also included Dave Pirner, Sterling Campbell, Grant Young and Dan Murphy, later changed their name to 'Soul Asylum' in 1983. The band went onto release several albums throughout the 1980s, but not any real successes. In 1992, they released their sixth album, "Grave Dancers Union" which was a huge success for them and their 1998 album, "Candy From A Stranger." The group also had some hit songs including, 'Runaway Train' and 'Misery.' In 1994, there was a rumor that the band would break up because of Pirner's romance with actress Winona Ryder, but they continued performing and recording until 2005. Their other recordings include, 'Heavy Rotation', 'Little Too Clean', 'Jack Of All Trades', 'I Know', 'Losin' It', 'Black Gold', 'Lonely For You', 'Without A Trace', 'Homesick', 'I Did My Best', and 'Passing Sad Daydream.' In May of 2004, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. Afterwards, several benefit concerts were held to help him with the medical bills. He lost his battle with the cancer, in June 2005, at the age of 41.
