US Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in October 1863 and commenced to practice law in Watertown, New York. He moved to Missouri, in 1865, continued the practice of law and City Attorney of Boonville. He was elected prosecuting attorney of Cooper County in 1872, was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1872 and in 1920, and served again City Attorney of Boonville. In 1883, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth Congress, serving until 1885. Nominated for another term, he withdrew before the election and resumed the practice of law until his death age 85.
