John Alaria, Sr., 74, of Kincaid, died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004, in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 24, 1930, in Tovey, the son of Peter and Rosa Perona Alaria. He married Phyllis Jean Meacham on August 20, 1949,in St. Charles, MO. She died March 1, 1997. He worked in the coal mines for 44 years, retiring from Peabody Coal Mine #10 in 1993. He was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local #9819 and American Legion Post #905 in Kincaid. He served in the U. S. Army.
Surviving are his sons: John Jr. (wife Linda) Alaria of Vincennes, IN, Larry (wife Molly) Alaria of Taylorville, Kevin (wife Rosetta) Alaria and Dale Alaria (companion Lori Roach), both of Kincaid, and Jeff (wife Shauna) Alaria of Bulpitt; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Lazzarini of Jefferson City, MO; brother, Herman Riva of Tovey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, with Deacon Daniel Willenborg officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, in the funeral home.
