Porter J. Stevens, 79, of 121 Dodge St., died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1995, in an Asheville hospital. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James Alexander and Pearl Dillard Stevens. He was an Army veteran of World War I and retired in 1981 from Gerber. He was a former employee of Ingles Markets, Inc. He was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Rutherford Stevens; daughter, Judith Ann Altman of Asheville; son, James Alexander Stevens of Providence, R.I.; sister, Mary Sue Pleasant of Baltimore, Md.; three grandsons; great-grandchild.
Porter Stevens Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. James I. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park.
